Following your Company Page in LinkedIn: What does it Means?

Over the past decade, LinkedIn has become an essential personal branding tool. The virtual professional network has morphed from an online resume and networking site to a comprehensive personal branding resource. LinkedIn profile is not only beneficial for employees but also it adds certain value to the company branding. In the present era of knowledge and service based business the marketing mix extended from 4 Ps to 8 Ps. The additional 4 Ps includes People, Process, Physical Evidence and Promise. LinkedIn could be an effective platform to showcase People who actually deliver!

Having the workforce use LinkedIn could become the company’s rocket fuel. Though few companies are afraid that employees will look for a new job, be poached by a recruiter or waste precious work time socializing in LinkedIn. But the mindsets are changing over recent times. The peoples following their company page in LinkedIn eventually bring mutual benefits for both company and themselves. So, when you are following your company page and getting engaged with the updates has significantly impact on the following outcomes:

  1. Increased Visibility for the Brand you work

When you “like” and “share” status updates of your company page, they make them visible to your contacts. This is living proof that every employee is a brand ambassador. The more views your company page has, the more potential followers. And when you comment on the communications, the visibility of that item increases. The more company page followers, the higher the page will rank in LinkedIn search results, sparking greater reach and potential interaction with the content.

When someone selects the company from the LinkedIn list when creating or updating their Experience, they automatically show up on the company’s LinkedIn page. And the company logo shows up on their page with a link back to the company page.

If you don’t have presence on LinkedIn and you aren’t engaged with the content – articles, promotions, videos and press releases – you’re limiting the reach of your communications. Don’t miss out on these effective opportunities to be visible to your target audience.

When someone looks at your profile, it not only speaks to your personal brand, but to your company brand as well. You when you engage and stay connected to the brand community, you’re sending a message about your company brand to everyone who visits you pages or interacts with you.  This is valuable to clients, potential customers, business partners and existing and future employees. Through the collective profiles of employees, people can see the talent and specific skills of people.

More importantly in knowledge and service based companies each employee’s LinkedIn page are a product page – because your talent truly is the offering. By showcasing your best assets, you’re saying something about your firm and the quality of your people.

A key advantage of social media is that it has made business more human. The more you use social media to engage with the brand community, the more connected they become to the company’s identity. Externally, the more human your brand becomes, the easier it is to build emotional connections and trust with clients and shareholders. Customer centricity comes from the people, not the products. To build emotional bonds with customers (and employees!) it’s time to engage all in the process – not just your sales people.

  1. Improved Loyalty

By engage yourself with the company updates regularly, you’re sending the message that you are loyal to your company. By making connected you are making your company basis for the shared bond. LinkedIn also serves as a great informational tool, helping different departments stay on top of what others are doing based on what they share.

Besides, the endorsements feature, along with recommendations, can also be helpful.  Beyond giving kudos to a colleague during a meeting, endorsing them online for a specific skill makes this acknowledgement visible to a much larger community. Public praise and recognition are powerful rewards for great work. That level of gratitude not only reinforces the bonds among people you work with but is also a confidence builder.
